Conceived and commissioned by the Milanese Franciscan Bernardino Caimi as a recreation of the holy sites of Palestine, it consists of 44 frescoed chapels and a basilica, all beautifully set within a natural park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">When admiring Varallo\u2019s artistic masterpieces, one cannot fail to mention Gaudenzio Ferrari. The works of the artist and his students can be found in the city\u2019s churches, including the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie with the Gaudenzian Wall, at the Sacred Mount, and in the Varallo Art Gallery. One of the jewels of this valley is the village of Rima \u2013 Alto Sermenza: a Walser settlement and the highest inhabited place in Valsesia, Rima is a small hamlet surrounded by a magnificent mountain amphitheater. Here, an ancient decorative art form is still preserved today\u2014one that made the inhabitants of Rima famous throughout the world in the 19th century: artificial marble. After a visit to the Pietro della Vedova Plaster Cast Gallery, a pleasant hike through the beautiful Rima basin is a must.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">A short distance from Varallo lies a valley rich in gorges of incredible beauty and wide plateaus surrounded by fir and beech forests: Val Mastallone. Rimella is one of the oldest Walser settlements in Valsesia. The village consists of numerous hamlets arranged in terraces along the mountain slopes and has preserved many traces of Walser culture in its architecture, evidence of which can be found in the Walser Museum of Rimella.
