On a small strip of land located south of the Monte Rosa massif and north of the large Vercelli plain, there is a land of ancient winemaking tradition where some of Italy’s best red wines are produced: Gattinara DOCG<\/strong>, Bramaterra DOC,<\/strong> and Coste della Sesia DOC<\/strong>. Following this itinerary, you will explore the Gattinara Hills<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 gattinara<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Gattinara<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>, a village of very ancient origins, is known across Italy and worldwide for the prized wine by the same name produced here: Gattinara DOCG.<\/strong> After visiting the imposing Parish Church of San Pietro<\/strong>, be sure to stroll downtown amongcharming arcades, ancient shops, and elegant nineteenth-century villas. To enjoy a unique view of Gattinara and the Nebbiolo vineyards, we recommend reaching Torre delle Castelle<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>, the lovely “Madonna della neve” Chapel<\/strong> and the Castle di S. Lorenzo<\/strong> ruins located at the top of the hill behind the village.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Enoteca Regionale di Gattinara<\/a><\/strong>, founded in 1999, promotes several initiatives to raise awareness about the winemaking world and the Nebbiolo lands of northern Piedmont<\/strong>. The headquarters of Enoteca Regionale is located in Villa Paolotti<\/strong>, a nineteenth-century manor house and an ancient historical wine store in Gattinara, an ideal place to explore, taste, and purchase the excellent wines of the area. You can also visit the Gattinara Ecomuseum<\/a><\/strong> at the villa, which hosts interesting farming items and tools of the past.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

3 Lozzolo<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The ancient village of Lozzolo<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>, together with Roasio, is the production location of some highly prized wines: Bramaterra DOC <\/strong>and Coste della Sesia DOC.<\/strong> After a visit to the village\u2019s beautiful historical center overlooked by the ancient thirteenth-century castle and the Church of San Giorgio, you can walk or bike along one of the many trails that connect the village to neighboring towns. The “Via della luce\u201d<\/strong> is a trail between Lozzolo and Gattinara that offers wonderful panoramas featuring woods and vineyards. It is definitely worth a visit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Roasio<\/a><\/strong>, a small wine village consisting of 5 hamlets. is known among MTB<\/strong> enthusiasts for the trails that reach Rive Rosse<\/strong>, a hilly area formed by reddish-colored rocks that create an almost surreal landscape. In the hamlet of Sant’Eusebio, it is possible to visit the Emigrant Museum<\/a><\/strong>. This unique museum hosts items, photographs, and memories of the inhabitants of Roasio who emigrated from Italy to every corner of the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

5 serravalle sesia<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Serravalle Sesia<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>, located in the area of a very ancient settlement, is home to some interesting sites such as the Sanctuary of Sant’Euseo<\/strong>, one of the most important in Valsesia, and the ruins of the Vintebbio Castle<\/a><\/mark><\/strong>. Several trails start from the village, which, in addition to reaching the peaks embracing the town, cross the enchanting hills of Bramaterra and Nebbiolo <\/strong>and connect the village with Lozzolo and Gattinara.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Baragge Nature Reserve<\/a><\/strong> that in the Vercelli area encompasses Rovasenda, Roasio, Gattinara, and Lenta, and was created to safeguard the last strips of Baraggia<\/strong>, a unique environment at times resembling that of the African Savannah<\/strong>. Very interesting from a landscape point of view, Baraggia is an ideal destination for hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The extraordinary Gattinara Hills are perfect for Nebbiolo<\/strong> <\/mark>cultivation mainly for two reasons: the unique micro-climate made possible by Monte Rosa<\/strong> and the particular subsoil of volcanic origin due to the Super-volcano of Valsesia<\/strong>. The grapes of this vine produce full-bodied and long-lived red wines that are suitable both for aged wines and young ones, but above all, these wines know how to pair well with traditional local dishes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
