Hence the creation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/visitvalsesiavercelli.it\/en\/scopri\/itinerari\/exploring-the-grange\/\"><strong><em>Grange<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, ancient residential units and agricultural centres where the \u2018conversi\u2019 (lay brothers) reclaimed the Po Valley and turned flatland forest into farmland. The last remnant of such forests can be found in the <a href=\"https:\/\/visitvalsesiavercelli.it\/en\/scopri\/punti-di-interesse\/the-partecipanza-wood\/\"><strong>Sorti della Partecipanza Wood in Trino<\/strong><\/a>. The <em>Grange <\/em>established in the Vercelli plain have their centre in the <a href=\"https:\/\/visitvalsesiavercelli.it\/en\/scopri\/punti-di-interesse\/principality-of-lucedio\/\"><strong>Abbey of S. Maria di Lucedio<\/strong><\/a>. This complex system of irrigation canals in which the <a href=\"https:\/\/visitvalsesiavercelli.it\/en\/scopri\/punti-di-interesse\/the-cavour-canal\/\"><strong>Cavour Canal<\/strong><\/a> stands out creates a landscape of rice-growing lands that is especially charming in spring, when the flooded rice fields offer an idyllic view known as the \u201ccheckered sea\u201d.
