ALAGNA: THE LAND OF WALSER VILLAGES
A small Alpine village at the foot of Mount Rosa, Alagna will charm you with its irresistible allure. Explore an authentic Alpine valley and discover a history of centuries-old traditions where man and nature coexist in harmony.
Learn about the history and culture of the Walser people, who settled down here around the 14th century by founding new villages at high altitudes. Take a stroll along the historic streets of the village where the typical wood and stone dwellings are perfectly preserved.
The Walser tradition lives on in the old houses, water mills, ovens and stone fountains located in the more than thirty hamlets of Alagna.
A genuine ski experience
Alagna is internationally renowned as a genuine freeride paradise. The lifts convey visitors from the 1,212 m of the village to the 3,275 m of the Indren Peak, in the heart of the glacier, but its beauty extends further, up to the 4,637 m of the Dufour Peak.
The Alagna ski resort is the gateway to a paradise made up of 180 km of groomed slopes. The connection with Val d’Aosta’s resorts of Gressoney and Champoluc allows one to enjoy a broad and unique experience, straddling two regions and at the foot of Europe’s highest massif. Here, every skier can find the route best suited to his or her tastes and skills, from extreme freeriding to easy slopes and beginner courses.
CHOOSE YOUR ADVENTURE
The 8-seater cable car connects Alagna to Pianalunga (2025 m), where the 100-seater Funifor cable car reaches the Salati Pass (3030 m). From the Salati Pass you can descend to the Val ‘d’Aosta area with its red slopes or choose the Valsesia side, or even use the lifts to reach the 3,275 m Indren Peak glacier, the starting point of free-snow itineraries.
From Pianalunga, with an open 2-seater chairlift, you can instead reach Bocchetta delle Pisse (2396 m), which offers a red slope that is also used in competitions.
Alpine ski enthusiasts can both admire the spectacular glacier of Mount Rosa, and follow countless off-track itineraries to experience their own freeride paradise.
FAMILY SPORTS AND RELAXATION – WOLD
Alagna also knows the art of providing excitement and fun for families and children. A short distance from Alagna, following a convenient and always accessible road, you reach the large Wold ski park, a small ski resort that is ideal for those who are taking their first steps on skis and snowboards. The Ski School offers a small camp equipped with a ski handrail and a ski lift serving two slopes with possible variations for fun and undemanding routes suitable for the whole family.
You can always ski at the Wold, the resort’s name in the Walser language, as it features a fixed artificial snowmaking system. At the edge of the slope, easily accessible also to non-skiers, you will find the restaurant-bar with solarium.
