UNIQUE EMOTIONS ON ROCK
Ropes, snap hooks, harness and shoes on your feet to enjoy climbing on the Valsesia rocks. From boulders to crags and indoor gyms, Valsesia meets the demands of all climbers, from the most experienced and courageous to those approaching this discipline for the first time. With a total of more than 400 routes distributed between Lower and High Valsesia, free-climbing options in the Valsesia region are countless.
Via ferrata enthusiasts can, instead, try their hand at the Ferrata Falconera in Varallo or the Ferrata di Cimalegna on Mount Rosa for an amazing experience and breathtaking views of the Valsesia landscape.
CLIMBING IN VALSESIA
Between Borgosesia and Quarona, do not miss the Laghetto Crag with medium difficulty routes and the Gibellino Wall, which is ideal for beginners.
Once you pass the town of Varallo, an unmissable stop for climbing enthusiasts is the Boccioleto area, in the Sermenza Valley, where the Giavine Tower, a fascinating and imposing tower of solid gneiss, and the Ronco Crag in Fervento, with various difficulty levels, are located. They are ideal also for beginners and novices.
High Valsesia features two more gems for free climbing, precisely the Calva Wall, perhaps the most imposing and wildest wall in the whole of Valsesia, located not far from the village of Rassa, and the Cuore Crag in Mollia with its athletic and continuous routes.
The Alagna area is home to the historic training gym for Fun’d’Scotte sport climbing. Valsesia meets the demands of boulder enthusiasts who can train on the Badia boulders in Quarona, the Pietra Grosse in Piode, or the Massi del Pastore at the Pile alpine pasture.
Indoor climbing gyms are the perfect solution in cold weather, or for indoor climbing enthusiasts. The area counts the Tullio Vidoni Gym in Varallo and the G. Rolandi Sports Centre in Alagna.
THE FALCONERA FERRATE
The city of Varallo will amaze you with its scenic and breathtaking ferrate routes!
- The Falconera Ferrata
This physically demanding technical route presents 400 m of rope to walk along precipices and horizontal ledges.
Technical difficulties: 4 – exposure: 4 – physical commitment: 4
Approach: from the Casa Serena car park in Varallo, follow Trail 651 for about 30 min. to the base of the wall.
Return: when you reach the summit of Mount Tovo, follow Trail 636C – 636B – 636 to Civiasco or to Varallo, as desired.
The Falconera Ferrata can also be tackled in the darkest hours as it has a night lighting system. - The Partusacc Ferrata
A loop route between the summit of Mount Tovo and the Falconera, this easy ferrata for newbees also offers an opportunity to see two caves.

THE CIMALEGNA FERRATA
Climbing towards the Alagna area, on the slopes of Mount Rosa, you will find the exciting Cimalegna Ferrata, a scenic route on a fully equipped rocky ridge that starts from Bocchetta delle Pisse and reaches the Cimalega plateau. This ferrata offers a choice of three routes: BLUE, the equipped ridge trail; RED, the first part of the most challenging ferrata, which can be entirely skipped with the GREEN trail.
Approach: from Alagna, take the cable car to Pianalunga and the chairlift to Bocchetta delle Pisse.
