tHE itinerary
Federica focused particularly on the Val Vogna, exploring the Alpe Larecchio trail in the hamlet of Sant’Antonio – Alagna Valsesia, which features a 590-meter elevation gain and is rated as moderately easy. Federica then spent a weekend discovering Valsesia’s outdoor activities, as well as the region’s folkloric traditions and local cuisine and wines.

alpe larecchio path
This route is one of the variations along the path to Colle Valdobbia, which leads to Alpe Larecchio, one of the most beautiful mountain pastures in Valsesia. Its small lake, surrounded by larch trees, makes it a beloved and charming destination, especially during the fall!
To reach the starting point of this route, from the village of Riva Valdobbia, follow the paved road to the hamlet of Sant’Antonio. Setting off on foot along the dirt road past the houses and the small church of the hamlet, follow the ancient trail to Aosta marked with trail marker 201. At the end of the dirt road, you reach the village of Peccia, with its characteristic Walser houses and beautiful little lake. Continuing along the trail, you cross the old bridge dating back to the Napoleonic era. Then take the trail on the right that climbs toward La Montata, 1,638 m. Further up, you reach the junction with the mule track to Colle Valdobbia. Continue along a well-maintained trail through the larch forest, which soon leads to Alpe Larecchio, 1,895 m (total time: about 2 hours), a beautiful and picturesque mountain pasture that is home to a farmhouse.

Valsesia between nature and traditions
Valsesia is known as the “greenest valley in Italy,” a distinction that attracts countless nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts to spend their vacations surrounded by nature.
But beyond the stunning natural landscapes that Valsesia has to offer, there are many treasures of great value waiting to be discovered.
Valsesia, with its history, folkloric traditions, culinary offerings, and villages whose narrow streets still exude an ancient charm—such as Alagna and Varallo, with their Walser houses and historic streets—offers unique experiences.
