THE PROJECT

The collaboration with Laura Zampetti, known on social media for her page “I weekendieri”, which has over 300,000 followers, stems from a desire to promote the city of Vercelli as an ideal destination for a weekend break, showcasing everything there is to see in just a few days. A short trip that captures the beauty of this medieval city and surprises visitors with its wealth of cultural and culinary offerings.

THE ITINERARY

An itinerary has been created to promote Vercelli and its province. A weekend exploring the city’s most iconic sites: from the majestic churches to the historic centre with its medieval charm, and the museums of great artistic and cultural significance. Three days dedicated also to the great culinary tradition of Vercelli, the European capital of rice, explored not only through its cuisine but also through the stories of the rice weeders and their work, as documented by the Conservatory of Rice Cultivation in Livorno Ferraris.

VERCELLI AND THE RICE LANDS

The journey begins with an exploration of Vercelli and its artistic and cultural heritage, including visits to the city’s museums, which house Vercelli’s priceless cultural treasures: the Museo Borgogna, the Museo Leone, the Museo del Tesoro del Duomo and the MAC.

We continue with a stroll through the historic centre, with its timeless medieval charm, arcades and towers, to reach the city’s most iconic churches: Sant’Andrea, the Cathedral and San Cristoforo.

And if your palate is also to be satisfied, we treat ourselves to a memorable culinary experience: from a plate of panissa to a delicious afternoon snack featuring Vercelli’s traditional sweets, bicciolani and tartufata.

Conservatory of Rice Cultivation

rice and its history

A “European capital of rice” truly has a wealth of stories to tell.

The journey therefore continues through the province of Vercelli, amongst the lands that have made Vercelli famous for its rice production.

A visit to Tenuta Colombara is essential to discover the Conservatory of Rice Cultivation, which houses photographs, artefacts, documents and testimonies of inestimable value on the history of rice cultivation and its key figures: the rice weeders, hard-working women who made an enormous contribution to Italian history, from their struggles for a more dignified life to the introduction of the eight-hour working day.
